HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well...not really. But that definitely was the appropriate phrase to keep near the tongue when I stopped by Bogota Latin Bistro (@BogotaBistro) for dinner, last new years eve. Located in Brooklyn near the newly constructed Barclays Center, it was a logical dinner choice to precede the Jay-Z and Coldplay NYE concert occurring later that night.

New Year's Even gear, compliments of Bogota!

Bogota Latin Bistro serves up a mishmash of Colombian and Pan-Latin cuisine. My impression of Latin culture in general is that it's lively, energetic, and fun (seriously, have you folks been latin dancing? it is one entertaining activity!). Everything about this place seemed to reinforce that impression of mine. The servers were friendly and cheerful, the food was unique, the atmosphere was colourful and fun. It's one of those places where you know if you turn up the music and order a couple sangrias, that it would make for a inevitable good time.

Balloons everywhere :)

White Sangria ($9/glass, $45/pitcher) - Grand Marnier, Peach Schnapps, mango, orange
Mojito ($9/glass, $45/pitcher) - rum, mint, sugar, lime juice, club soda

Bogota has a relatively exotic cocktail list, which is fitting for the type of fare served. As a table we ordered pitchers of White Sangria and Mojito, and they were fantastic! So good that there were several subsequent orders!

In the food department, the restaurant replaced the regular menu with a special New Years Eve Prix Fixe $50 Menu which included an appetizer, a main, and a dessert. Many of these were dishes from their regular menu.

Grilled Vegetable Napoleon - roasted herb marinated vegetables, sweet potato, carrot, ruchini, yellow squash, red pepper, red onion, eggplant & portabella mushroom, drizzled with balsamic vinegrette served with roasted tomato

After a couple days in the city, I felt like it was time for an injection of vegeteables in my system. Initially I was going to order a salad, but then I saw this entree and was taken back by the numerous vegetarian ingredients that is used to creat this Grilled Vegetable Napoleon I dare you to try and read all the ingredients in one breath! The dish came in three assembled structures, with layers of vegetables wrapping other vegetables. It was a messy one to eat, but a great vegetarian option none the less.

DESSERTS

Fruit Salad - mango, strawberry, pinapple, seasonal berry & banana

Churros - traditional Mexican pastry sticks; chocolate & dulce de leche dipping sauces

I don't know if it's the cinnamon sugar, the deep fried dough, or the accompanying dulce de leche, but I absolutely love churros. I thought these ones from Bogota could have been a little less sweetened, but other than that they were pretty much irresistible.

Chocolate cake - served with chocolate syrup & vanilla ice cream

It doesn't get any more classic than ending a meal with chocolate cake, and this one was definitely a highlight for me. A decadent cake that is filled with warm ganache, served with cold ice cream. Yum! :)

Well-equipped to ring in the new year! :)

Overall a decent and very filling meal, and I loved that we got to keep all the new years props!
