Fran's Restaurant

Location Review:
20 College Street
Toronto Ontario
(Major Intersection: Yonge St. and College St)
I had never heard of this place before, so I was shock to learn that this location has been around since 1940! With it's broadway-like lit up signs, and their "always open" hours (even on black out holidays!), Fran's might be one of those rare dinners left in Toronto. Seriously, when you first walk in, you feel like you've teleported back a couple decades. The decor looks like it hasn't changed one bit since it opened! I wouldn't have been surprised if there was a coin operated record player somewhere in the back. The servers were also noticably friendlier than a lot of restaurants I've been to. The one that served us was very outgoing, and the way she conversed with us almost made me feel like I was a regular. As tempted as I was to the all day breakfast menu, we opted to order something else for dinner.

Woo Buffet

Review Location:
10 Dundas Street E
Toronto Ontario
(Main Intersection: Dundas St and Yonge St)

Buffets are usually pretty difficult to blog about since there's so much variability in the food served, but I had such an interesting experience at Woo, that I thought I would share. I went for dinner on a Saturday night, and the atmosphere of the place was absolutely amazing. You might mistaken yourself for going into a club when you first get inside, because every part about it resembles one!

[Toronto] Japango

Review Location:
122 Elizabeth Street
Toronto, Ontario
(Major Interesection: Dundas St. W & Bay St.)

Thus far, 50% of my posts have been on Japanese food. I feel that there are two main types of places. One is the lower end, volume and affordability focused restaurants. The other, is the high end, quality and authenticity focused restaurants that will also make a huge dent in your wallet. I find Japango is one of the very few exceptions in that they offer a really great meal experience at a reasonable price. Definitely a place I would keep coming back to.

Beer Bistro

Review Location:
18 King Street East
Toronto, Ontario
(Major Intersection: Yonge St. & King St. E)

Beer seems to be well adored in the city of toronto. It is so versitile, and at Beer Bistro, it has taken a classier face similar to the reputation of wine. I was overwhelmed by the restaurant's beer list which was an entire booklet with hundreds of beer choices --it was definitely hard to choose just one!

[North York] Inakaya

Review Location:
126 Willowdale Avenue
North York, Ontario
(Major Intersection: Sheppard Ave E & Willowdale Ave)

While the name of this restaurant may not be familiar to many people, I've been hearing lots of buzz about it. In fact, now that I've eaten there, I realize how many pictures there are on Facebook of one their most popular rolls (rest assured I ordered this and took some nice pictures of it!).

[Vaughan] Wegz Stadium Bar

Review Location:
2601 Rutherford Road
Vaughan, Ontario
(major intersection: Rutherford Rd & Jane St)

One of the nights during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, a bunch of my friends and I went to this bar to grab some dinner and watch the game. This is one of the nicer sports bars I've been to, and they really try to channel to all sports fans. There is a golf simulator, darts boards, bowling alley, even an area for betting on horses.

[Richmond Hill] Mitsui

Review Location:
10815 Bathurst Street
Richmond Hill, Ontario
(Major Intersection: Bathurst and Elgin Mills)

I'm on a roll with these sushi posts eh? Well this is actually a delayed post. Somehow a whole bunch of my pictures got archived before I had a chance to go through and pick out the ones I wanted to blog about, so be prepared for some backdated posts!

I actually went to Mutsui around March with Elina on a double date. We didn't actually plan it that way, it just so happened. Feels weird referring to it as that now... Anyhoos, this restaurant is right around where I live, and typically when you live this far north away from the city, there isn't much good food. But this place really exceeded my expectations, and I'm definitely short listing this place to combat future sushi and bubble teal cravings! (yes they serve both, this is heaven!)

Dozo (Closed)

Review Location:
230 Commerce Valley Drive East
Richmond Hill, Ontario
(Major Intersection: Hwy 7 & East Beaver Creek)

Under a month ago, a dozen of my friends and I came here to celebrate two birthdays. Not exactly the best place to come before a night of drinking, but this was the close by to where we were going after. I also suggested this place because the atmosphere is really nice here. The decor of the restaurant is fairly trendy, and gives off a calming ambiance with its comfy padded booth seats and dim glowing lights. With it's pink and purple colour scheme, and scattered strands of beads hanging from the ceiling, it almost reminded me of a lounge.

[Toronto] Salad King

Location Review:
340 Yonge Street, 2nd floor
Toronto, Ontario
(Major Intersection: Yonge St and Dundas Ave)

During one of them random weekdays, my co-workers and I went out for lunch. Usually we go to places around our office in Yorkville, but to satisfy the cravings of my cubicle neighbour Fatima, we subwayed a bit down to have Thai food. Despite being a bit of a trek, I didn't mind it because I hadn't been to the new location since it opened in February.

[Ottawa] The Works Gourmet Burger Bistro

Review Location:
2525 Bank Street
Ottawa, Ontario

(Major Intersection: Bank st & Hwy 417)

Hopefully you all aren't bored of reading about Ottawa, but I promise this is the last from this trip!

For lunch on the Victoria Day Monday that we were there, we decided to go to The Works. We were actually supposed to go here the night before for dinner, but it was so packed, so we went somewhere else. In a way, this place reminds me of Craft Burger in Toronto, except with even crazier burgers.

[Ottawa] Wasabi Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar

Location Review:
41 Clarence Street
Ottawa, Ontario

While I was visiting Ottawa for the Victoria Day long weekend, one of the nights our hosts took us to have Japanese food. I absolutely LOVE japanese food, so I was really excited! Jamie (the Ottawa local who brought us here) is actually a frequent and loyal customer, so much that the owners knows her by name. She also mentioned that this restaurant is a very popular spot for many celebrities and players from the Ottawa Senators!

[Ottawa] Von's Bistro

Review Location:
819 Bank Street
Ottawa, Ontario

If you’re like me, then you love breakfast food. I’m not much of a morning person though, so brunch is probably like the best thing invented. While in Ottawa, we ended up taking a stop here on a Sunday for some early afternoon fuel.

This place is located in the "Glebe" area of Ottawa, and is a small little restaurant. To maximize on seating, all the tables were quite squished together, but the big light inviting glass windows help a bit with the perception of space.
