And the last chapter of my first food crawl with Andrew (@_aneb), Justine (@foodigatorJ), and Chieu (@chieunghi) takes place at a small sandwich shop in the Trinity Bellwoods neighbourhood.

Porchetta and Co (@PorchettaAndCo) serves exactly what you think it does: porchetta. And that's pronounced "porketta" as Andrew would emphasize. The recipe for this traditional Italian pork roast at Porchetta and Co starts off with a 24 hour marinated pork shoulder. It's wrap it in prosciutto, then again wrap in cured pork belly, and roasted until crispy on the outside. This masterpiece is finally carved to be placed on sour dough buns. Sound amazing? Well it kind of is, so keep reading.

"Restaurant Today, Condos Tommorrow. When? Who knows? so come and get it!" This is literally the first thing I see on a sign walking into the restaurant. And I think it does a good job summing up Come and Get It! (@comeandgetit416) the newest grab-and-go sandwich joint at Spadina and Queen. Having only opened for just a couple months, it's fated to be turned into a Condo project sometime this year. I have it say its an unfortunate decree -- the food was great!

[Taiwan] Rice Sandwich @ Family Mart

In western society, breads and buns make a majority of the grain intake. However in Asian cultures, rice is the much preferred grain medium. I don't think there's a day that goes by where my parents don't cook rice at home for dinner. Given its cultural significance, I decided to blog about my first experience eating...a rice sandwich! I know convenience store food isn't the most interesting to read about, and unfortunately this wouldn't be my first of such posts. I promise I'll try to keep this at a minimum for the future!

The rice sandwich is definitely not a new concept. Mcdonalds has had the McRice Burger since before 2005, and is found in multiple countries in Asia. And while I've heard about its existence for a while, I never actually ever tried it...until now.

One afternoon my co-workers and I went out for a quick lunch. We wanted to sit out in the patio because it was a nice day, so chose this smaller pub in hopes that it wasn't already packed from the lunch crowd. Spirits ended up being the perfect place. This place has it all. They serve brunch, lunch, and dinner, and have an awesome stocked bar. Because I was here for a weekday lunch with the co-workers I didn't end up ordering drinks, but looking through the drink menu I noticed they had an extensive beer list on tap. Even draft Strongbow! Obviously the beer offerings were no match to that of Beer Bistro or other specialized restaurants, but for a tiny pub its not too bad.

Fran's Restaurant

I had never heard of this place before, so I was shock to learn that this location has been around since 1940! With it's broadway-like lit up signs, and their "always open" hours (even on black out holidays!), Fran's might be one of those rare dinners left in Toronto. Seriously, when you first walk in, you feel like you've teleported back a couple decades. The decor looks like it hasn't changed one bit since it opened! I wouldn't have been surprised if there was a coin operated record player somewhere in the back. The servers were also noticably friendlier than a lot of restaurants I've been to. The one that served us was very outgoing, and the way she conversed with us almost made me feel like I was a regular. As tempted as I was to the all day breakfast menu, we opted to order something else for dinner.
